NutBar (“we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed by the NutBar macOS app and the nutbar.app website, how that information is used, and how it is stored.
Overview
NutBar consists of:
- The NutBar macOS app, a menu bar app for monitoring an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) through Network UPS Tools (NUT)
- The nutbar.app website, which provides information about NutBar
This Privacy Policy separates the privacy practices of the app and the website because they do not process the same categories of information.
NutBar macOS App
Information Processed
The NutBar macOS app may process the following information in order to function:
- NUT server connection details you enter, such as host, port, UPS name, and optional username
- Optional NUT password for authenticated access
- UPS status information returned by your NUT server, such as battery charge, runtime, load, voltage, and device details
- Local app settings and preferences, such as notification settings, polling interval, menu bar display preferences, and launch-at-login preference
How Information Is Used
The NutBar macOS app uses this information only to provide app functionality, including:
- Connecting to your configured NUT server
- Displaying UPS information in the menu bar and settings window
- Sending local notifications for power events and battery thresholds
- Optionally performing a user-configured sleep action on your Mac during a critical battery event
Local Storage
The NutBar macOS app stores data locally on your Mac.
- App settings are stored in the app’s sandboxed preferences.
- The optional NUT server password is stored in the macOS Keychain.
- UPS status data is used in memory while the app is running and is not sent to external services.
Network Use
The NutBar macOS app connects only to the NUT server you configure.
- The app does not transmit your data to any remote server operated by us.
- The app does not use cloud services, analytics services, ad networks, or tracking SDKs.
- The app does not share your information with third parties.
Please note that the NUT protocol itself typically uses plain TCP and does not provide built-in transport encryption. If your environment requires additional protection, you should use NutBar only on a trusted network or place NUT behind a VPN or SSH tunnel.
System Permissions
The NutBar macOS app may request notification permission so it can alert you to UPS events.
If you enable a critical battery sleep action, the app uses macOS system power APIs to request sleep.
NutBar Website
Information Processed
The nutbar.app website may process limited information about your visit, including:
- Pages viewed
- Approximate location derived from IP address
- Browser and device information
- Referring website or source
- General interaction and usage data
Google Analytics
The nutbar.app website uses Google Analytics to measure website traffic and understand how visitors use the site.
Google Analytics may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as page views, device and browser details, approximate geographic region, and referring pages. We use this information to improve the website and understand aggregate usage patterns.

Website Data Sharing
Website analytics data may be processed by Google as our analytics provider. We do not use the website for advertising networks or behavioural ad targeting.
